Thank you for visiting my #gibbonwarrior shop!<\/strong><\/p> My name is Carolyn and I am a wildlife scientist with more than 20 years' experience working in primatology (the study of apes and monkeys).<\/p> I was first introduced to the gibbons, the smallest of the apes, back in 2013 whilst working in Indonesian Borneo. I was shocked to discover that 19 of the 20 gibbon species are on the brink of extinction. I knew I wanted to do something to help.<\/p> What better way of helping than studying them in the wild and working with local people to come up with sustainable conservation solutions? <\/strong>Alas no one would fund me.<\/p> I applied to many big funding bodies who's feedback was along the lines of \"we don't support species with populations below 150 individuals.\" That's right, only 150 individuals remain! Surely, even more of a reason to fund and study them?!<\/p> Not one to give up, I launched a crowdfunding campaign in 2017 to support my doctorate research on the newly described Skywalker gibbon.<\/p> The campaign had astronomical success ! I offered my backers rewards in the form of postcards, posters, canvas prints, photographs - and t-shirts.<\/p> \u200bDue to popular demand, I set up a #gibbonwarrior\u00a0shop on Teemill;\u00a0a sustainable, ethical, environmentally-friendly and socially-responsible company. They use organic cotton, renewable energy and non-plastic packaging.<\/p> \u200bAll proceeds I receive from the sales goes towards my gibbon research.
